Work with a group for 6 - 8 weeks to create something new to show at Offbeat 2024.

The groups

The groups will review the applications, and select the artist they want to work with. You can choose to apply to be considered by both groups, or just one.

KEEN Oxford

Keen is a community organisation which runs social, recreational and sporting activities for children and adults with a wide range of disabilities and additional needs.

You’ll be working with their group of young people aged 16+, (about 15 – 20 individuals). The group meets on Mondays, 7.30 - 8.30pm, at St Clements Community Centre.

Refugee Resource

Refugee Resource provides psychological, social and practical support for refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants to help them heal from trauma and suffering, and to build new lives as part of Oxfordshire’s diverse community.
You’ll be working with a small group of adults, who may have different English language capability. Sessions will take place at the Refugee Resource offices on Cowley Road – for this reason, they will happen on weekdays some time between 9am and 5pm (exact times and dates to be negotiated).

The project

Artists can pitch a project in any art form – visual arts, performance or anything else you can think of.

An artist fee of £2000 is available, plus an additional £1000 for materials or other costs.

Timeframe

February 2024 – applications close

March 2024 – the groups will select their artist. You may be invited for an interview with the group.

Once the artist has been selected, the group and the artist will organise the logistics and an exact timeline for the project.

March - August 2024 – at some point during this time period, you will run your workshops. The exact dates can be decided with the group.

July 2024 – if your project is a visual arts exhibition, we will install it the week beginning 29 July, to open for August and September.

8 – 15 September 2024 – if your project is a performance, you will present it during the festival.

What we need from you

Workshops. You’ll lead 6 – 8 workshops with the group, working towards creating something to be shown in the festival.

Documentation. Offbeat is about showing how work gets made. You will provide one blogpost per session, with photos, to show how the project is progressing.

A finished product. This could be a visual arts exhibition to open in August 2024, or a performance to be shared during Offbeat festival, the week beginning 8 September.
